Geert Veneklaas has been playing the piano since he was six years old. With his broad musical interest and the urge to understand how music works, he seemed destined to work in education after his training as a music teacher, but instead he followed his heart to become a keyboard player in a rockband. Despite a radio hit, listings in the Dutch charts and touring the club circuit, Geert put an end to his career as a pop musician, but continued to develop himself as a composer and arranger in his homestudio. This resulted, among other things, in a score for a short film that was screened at several international film festivals.
Geert’s ambition has recently taken flight by focusing on composing modern classical piano compositions, and thereby returning to a part of his roots. As a result of this he released his first compositions in 2021, ahead of an album release in 2022. Classifying Geert Veneklaas’ music into a genre would result in something like ‘contemporary classical’ or ‘neoclassical’. Think of Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Joep Beving and so on.
